About
An Encroachment Permit is required whenever construction work or certain activities take place within a Yuba County public right-of-way. This includes work performed by residents, contractors, utility companies, businesses, developers, public agencies, and other organizations. An encroachment permit helps ensure that work or events within the public right-of-way are completed safely and in accordance with County standards, protecting public infrastructure and minimizing impacts to the traveling public.
Construction activities that typically require a permit include, excavation or trenching, utility installation or maintenance, driveway or sidewalk installation or replacement, sign, post, or fence installation, placement of equipment or structures within the right-of-way, vegetation planting or trimming, other work within, under, or over the public right-of-way. Non-construction activities that may require a permit include neighborhood block parties, walkathons, marathons, and bike races, parades or marching band reviews, temporary placement of materials or equipment on a public street or sidewalk.
Before beginning work:
- Call USA Underground Alert (811) at least two working days before any excavation or digging begins.
- Notify Yuba County Public Works Inspection at [email protected] at least 48 business hours before work is scheduled to begin.
Please note that an Encroachment Permit does not replace or eliminate any permits or approvals that may be required by other local, state, or federal agencies. You are responsible for obtaining all applicable permits before work begins.
